Anybody up for a trip to Irvine for an auction of Arthur Anderson's furniture and equipment? Funny, only two years ago, the head of a supposedly-cutting-edge-but-actually-not-very-cutting-edge program told me that Arthur Anderson was his model. Well, yes, I understand now.

I am saddened to write that Rose Mendez passed away last Saturday. Rose graduated Cornell University with an M.Arch, taught at the University of Buffalo, at SCI-Arc, and at UCLA. Among her many accomplishments, Rose's firm FM design won a competition for the redesign of San Francisco's Union Square and she was project manager for the LA Now book.
There will be a gathering for those who knew her and want to share our memories at the SPF gallery, 6pm this Saturday. SPF gallery is at 3384 Robertson Place, Culver City, in the triangle of land next to the 10 off-ramp. Given the limited parking, its probably best to park at OfficeMax on Venice and walk to SPF. Better directions can be found at the spfa web site.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship at Cornell in Rose's name is being established:
