the creative class

If the creative class is now the dominant target for advocates of urban growth who argue that it is the engine of future economic growth, where does that leave the avant-garde? I'm such a Hegelian, but doesn't this mean we're done with the avant-garde once and for all?

The avant-garde are left

The avant-garde are left ignored in a corner-room, supping one of Picasso's banquets, wheeled out from time to time for catwalk shows and other stuff that needs a little bit of Bad Boy Frou Frou. I wouldn't worry about being a Hegelian; be more concerned that you didn't invent a futures market in creative class spectacles. :((
