AUDC installed a model of One Wilshire, the most connected building in the world on a desert bluff in the 2006 High Desert Test Sites show. One of the least aesthetic buildings that Skidmore, Owings, and Merrell ever built, One Wilshire signifies the disconnect between form and function that has taken place in network society, it announces that program and infrastructure have taken over, definitively killing architecture. Relocating One Wilshire to the Mojave Desert underscores the hallucinatory reconfiguration of space that network culture produces. One Wilshire could be anywhere, in downtown LA, in the desert, in your bedroom, or in the Marianas Trench. Space is something entirely different to us today.
