The WOS 8 heat exchange unit by NL Architects. WOS 8 is designed to take waste heat from a nearby power plant and convert it into heat for the 10,000 dwellings that will eventually be built in the vicinity. Because the WOS 8 building will be almost completely unattended, NL architects found it crucial to see the building as something that reaches out to the public as a way of resisting vandalism.


Warmte Overdracht Station 8 (Heat Exchange Unit 8) by NL Architects is designed to take waste heat from a nearby power plant and convert it into heat for the 10,000 dwellings that will eventually be built in the vicinity.

Because the WOS 8 building will be almost completely unattended, NL architects found it crucial to reach out to the public as a way of resisting vandalism.

Covered in indestructable black rubber, the building includes a basketball hoop and a climbing wall and has curved surfaces on it that create intriguing effects when it rains.

The sheep in the next polder want to be sure that you don’t molest the lamb.

The lamb is following you.


In Dutch the sign reads that entry is forbidden, but the English sign indicates a different attitude (perhaps realism) aimed at architects.
